Hey! The Super Bowl is today! And like half of its viewers, I really only watch for the commercials and the halftime show. But because I’m going to be devoting my entire evening to watching this game, I might as well show support for one of the teams. It seems like all of America is behind the Saints, and for good reason. This is their first Super Bowl, the win would be an amazing boost for New Orleans, they have that catchy “Who Dat?” thing going on…
But, I’m not the rest of America, so go Colts! I’m cheering for the Colts for several reasons. I’ve loved Peyton Manning since his Tennessee days, and I lived in Indiana for four years during college, so I still have some state loyalties. But the most important reason I want the Colts to win is that I believe the state of Indiana needs this win more than the City of New Orleans.
Hey New Orleans, guess what? Even if the Saints lose, you’re still going to be awesome and super fun. Hell, Mardi Gras is just around the corner. I know there’s still devastation from Katrina, but ya’ll still know how to party. You have jazz, and you get to eat beignets ALL YEAR LONG. Those things are delicious.
People of New Orleans, have you been to Indiana? It’s really boring. Amish country is pleasant, but it’s got nothing on Bourbon Street. The best thing to come out of Indiana is the University of Notre Dame, not that I’m biased or anything. But when your college is the second biggest tourist attraction in the state, you know you live in one of the least exciting places in the country. I hope I’m not offending any of my friends from Indiana, but let’s be realistic here. I mean, have you driven through Gary before? It’s not as pleasant as THE MUSIC MAN makes it seem.
So New Orleans, let Indiana have this one. A Colts win is probably the most exciting thing that will happen in the state until Notre Dame wins another national championship. That would be any day now, right?

Indiana lives and dies by its sports teams/events, both college and professional.
Without success from any of those teams/events, this is a truly sad place to live. It could be worse, though. We could be Ohio, where Cleveland and Cincinnati’s teams haven’t won in a truly long time. THE Ohio State University has kept that entire population on life support for more than a decade.
Now, I do have one correction on this post: Our most cherished state treasure is the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. THAT would be the best thing to come out of Indiana, considering the track holds over 300,000 spectators for one race… not to mention the fact that we pretty much invented modern racing as we know it. (IndyCar, anyone?)
After that… you have Indiana University basketball, Notre Dame football, and the Colts.
You know what this long comment means? I have to make a response post in my blog… which I will do after Peyton Manning blows away the Saints
